MORNING INTENTION DURING LENT

Morning Intention Setting:

  • Sit comfortably on a chair or lie in bed before getting up in the morning.
  • Close your eyes and take several long, deep breaths through your nose.
  • Ask yourself: “What is my heart’s desire? What do I wish for myself, for my loved ones, and for the world?”   The Dalai Lama has a simple way of testing our intentions: “Is it just for me, or for others? For the benefit of the few, or for the many? For now, or for the future?”
  • State your intention for the day. For example: Today may I greet everyone with the love that is in my heart.

You might like to repeat the following four lines adapted from the traditional Tibetan prayer of the Four Immeasurables:

May all beings attain happiness.

May all beings be free from suffering.

May all beings never be separated from joy.

May all beings abide in equanimity.

REMINDER! Daylight Savings Time begins this Sunday, March 12th at 2:00 a.m.

The Merging Waters Lenten Project

Since Lent is about change, why not try some of these ideas during the next forty days? In order to be awakened to the change, write down your actions on your c

alendar each day. Come every Sunday during Lent and be willing to share your actions with a friend during coffee time.

Possible suggestions:

  • Every day, put a non-perishable food stuff in a bag or box for the local food bank or St Columba House
  • Declutter your house a little bit every day. Get rid of the clothes that don’t fit, those kitchen plates, gadgets or pans you never use. The books that you are continuously dusting. All these things can be donated to Boutique 24 or another charity of your choice.
  • Give away a smile or a compliment every day of Lent.
  • Forgive a long-held grudge. Forgiving someone else will bless you as much – if not more – than the person you forgive.
  • Write a letter to the editor about a social justice issue.
  • Volunteer an hour of your time or contribute an hour’s salary to a group or organization that is seeking to make peace in the local community or in the world.

Or come up with your very own wonderful ideas
