This is an invitation to anyone who wishes to be part of the discussions about the United Church of Canada’s remits that were explained to many after the Merging Waters AGM on February 26, 2017 at the meeting of the Official Board of the Merging Waters Pastoral Charge on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, 7:30PM at Union Church Adair Hall.

There were some members who spoke to me after the meeting following our Merging Waters AGM to say that they felt these decisions should have been voted on in a Congregational meeting. However, we are obliged to vote at the Official Board of Merging Waters.  It was decided to invite anyone who wishes to be part of the discussions prior to the Board’s vote to attend this meeting without having the right to vote.

If you wish further information about the remits to be voted on, please go to the United Church of Canada website and follow the links to General Council remits.

Please feel free to speak to me or to Lyle Cruickshank if you have any questions or concerns.

On behalf of the Merging Waters Official Board, Jan Langelier Co- Chairperson. 514-453-7103

The May 6 joint concert held at Union and organized by the Summerlea Refugee Support Coalition’s four churches, music directors and choirs, was a huge success, and it raised over $1,700 to provide essential help to our Syrian family while they are still living in Saudi Arabia.

Then, on May 10th, we received this exciting news from Saudi Arabia, that Bilal Karnazi and his family finally had the all-important interview and now only await the medical and security checkup. When all that is done, and in, and OK’d, the Embassy in Saudi Arabia sends the final approval to Canada’s regional offices in Abu Dhabi.  They are the ones to issue the final travel visas and airline tickets. Although this process could be quick, experience shows that it usually takes a couple more months.

Our next task as part of the Summerlea Refugee Support Coalition is to ensure that we have all the ‘basics’ ready and waiting to furnish their apartment within a couple of weeks of their arrival.  Bilal’s brother Salman, our co-sponsor, and his family have already said they will host the new arrivals upon their arrival in Montreal and until a suitable apartment is found.  We will inform you of any needed items through the mid-week message, as soon as we have the list.

Spring can be a time of re-birth of both body and soul. Feeling stressed and need to slow down and/or wanting to connect with God in the midst of life? Come to meditation Tuesday 4:30 p.m., Thursday 9:30 a.m. chez Vicki.

Are you in spring cleaning and decluttering mode? Please remember Boutique 24 when cleaning out closets and basements – your clothes, books, dishes, small appliances, lamps, jewelry, accessories, yarn and other craft supplies can all find a new home – and raise money for church and community projects through our Boutique.
